Volunteer of the Month
The Education Committee at WACF is proud to announce the recipient of the Volunteer of the Month for June 2021, Diana Castell. There is no one in our organization that is more passionate about the water quality of our Indiana lakes than Diana, which is WACF’s mission. Her desire to preserve our lakes and streams began at an early age as she was raised on Papakeechie Lake while her father served as manager of the fish hatchery. After receiving a teaching degree from Purdue University, she influenced her young students by her knowledge of science and eventually became a principal. After retirement she served nine years on the WACF board as Ecology Chairperson. To this date she continues to serve on both the Ecology and Education Committees exhibiting exceptional attendance and commitment. WACF’s “Lake Talks and Eats” was Diana’s brainchild. These lectures by guest speakers on timely topics offer a comfortable environment such as the Ruddell Pavilion and the Lilly Pad cruise boat for interested participants. She has gained extensive knowledge of water quality and testing by attending seminars and conferences while acquiring valuable experience in the field. Presently, she serves on the Indiana Lakes Management Society (ILMS) Board of Directors and is an Indiana Master Naturalist. Beyond all this, she gladly finds time to volunteer at many of the WACF activities and events geared to children and their families. After many years of service to WACF, Diana’s passion and focus has always been to make a difference in the water quality of our precious lakes. We recognize and appreciate her time and effort accomplishing this goal. Congratulations, Diana!
