Lake Wawasee Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan

Executive Summary

The following report outlines a long-term vegetation management strategy for Lake Wawasee. Aquatic Weed Control was contracted by the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation to conduct aquatic vegetation surveys and propose a lake management plan based on the results of the surveys. Funding for this plan was provided by the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) through the Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) program.

Water-Table Characteristics In The Lake Wawasee Basin And Vicinity

Introduction
Lake Wawasee is the largest natural lake in Indiana.  The lake is late Wisconsin age and occupies a massive ice-block depression in the classic interlobate area that lay between the Saginaw and Erie Lobes.  The lake is located in northeastern Kosciusko County, but a large part of the watershed is located in southwestern Noble County.

Key WACF Acquisition

After a full 20 years of negotiations with the property owner, WACF has acquired what is arguably their most important property. The Turkey Creek Inlet Preserve (across from Runaway Bay) filters the approximately 43% of water flowing into Lake Wawasee.
