WACF Education Center Enhanced Wetland Restoration Project

Through a grant from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation in the amount of $9,000 WACF completed a Master Plan of the WACF Levinson-LaBrosse Education Center property in 2009 identifying filled wetland areas, wooded wetlands, upland areas, and spaces appropriate for more usable open public space. In addition, WACF received a $5,000 grant from the KCCF in 2011 for Wetland Enhancement at the WACF Education Center which consisted of restoring the wetland area directly behind the Education Center Building. This area had formerly been a dump for car engines, concrete, wood etc. The project consisted of removal of the fill, shaping of the wetland area and edges, and planting of native species around the perimeter of the enhanced wetland area.
