Science of Decomposition
WACF will host a special Halloween event at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Ruddell Pavilion, combining spooky fun with science. During “Science of Decomposition,” organizers will unveil the results of the community pumpkin experiment, showing how pumpkins break down on dry land, at the water’s edge, and in wetland muck.
The event will feature hands-on activity stations featuring the life stages of maggots, decay of cotton fabric, and a live science demonstration by County Coroner Tyler Huffer, who will explain how microorganisms in water and soil influence decomposition and can play a role in medical examinations.
